Corredor polifacético de carretera, pista (veladas inolvidables en el velodromo de Mataró...) y ciclocross, fué el primer Español en vestir el maillot amarillo de lider del Tour de Francia, y el primero en "emigrar" buscando un ciclismo internacional mas acorde a sus cualidades.
